Indian Beach

Then I went to Indian Beach (also in Trinidad, down trail by lighthouse). That turned out to be the perfect place for an afternoon like this. Calm and almost warm!! It kind of reminded me of that Sept. weekend I spent in Rogers City, walking along Lake Huron.
I want to take advantage of good weather, which we haven't had much of and which won't last. Leaf Lady (gail)

bubbles

There were a lot of bubbles on Clam Beach today, so decided that would be today's experiment. When I took the first one, I didn't realize my reflection would be in every bubble. Obviously I had when I took the other!  I'm waving hi!  Hi!

Hammond Trail

Finally rode on the Hammond Trail this afternoon. (Bike-hike-horses only trail between Arcata and almost to Clam Beach.)

A woman took my picture with a big, old, view camera (I think). It takes 4x5s. She's an advance photog. student at HSU and doing a project on people who use the trail. Actually I've only used it about 3 other times, on foot. Most of it is paved, but the end is still dirt.

Labor Day at Caliente Mountain where it was caliente

From: David Pierce
It was bone dry and 92°F. Cuyama Valley with the partly forested Sierra Madre Mountains to the south as seen from the Caliente Mountain foothills on the north. Or, if you prefer, view to SSE.

Midground is a distributed juniper forest populating the N-NW facing slopes. These desert slopes are in the rain shadows of multiple mountain ranges including the Caliente Range itself. Coyote, elk, rodents, I think I saw a dusky footed wood rat mound in a hollow tree, and ground dwelling owls which were not home on Labor Day…probably cooling their heals in Lompoc or something. This is about 70 miles from Lompoc as the Prius flys.

by turning my head

I had to go to Trinidad again this a.m. to pick up Wendy's mail.   It wasn't quite just turning my head, but these two pictures were taken only a few feet and about one minute apart, just looking in different directions. And I did nothing in Picasa! It was just the morning fog.  Leaf Lady (gail)

Early Morning Rocks

I'm never at the beach at 9:30 a.m. so hadn't seen this nice light. Usually those rocks are rather dark and I turn my feet and camera in the other direction, toward the Indian maiden and the beach to walk.  Leaf Lady (gail)

azalea park

Took a walk in Azalea Park after painting the deck yesterday (Labor Day). I thought I might see a fairy on those ferns but haven't.

Walking back along the road I saw these backlit thistles. I admit to adjusting them a little in Picasa. Well, on the one with lots of thistles, I just darkened the shadows a teeny bit. But I confess I darkened the shadows a LOT on the one of just 3 teasles. It's not that good a picture even after doing that, but I think the stems are cool.  Leaf Lady (Gail)
