Lynda's Garden the Fifth Trip

Look what I got to bring home from this trip! The egg plant I cooked with Italian spices. The rest went into a spicy lentil soup.

Look what else I brought home... again. Now that the booty has been consumed, I need someone to remind me why it is I like gardening so much, because in the midst of my itchiness, I have forgotten. I read in National Geographic that the higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere due to pollution, is causing the chemicals that result in the rash by these plants to be more potent. Oh yea. Many more spots have surfaced since this photo. It covers my abdomen and legs as well. This is getting old.

Composting

Composting is important for the earth, the community and for the individual.

Here are our compost piles. From left to right, fresh, medium and
old. The old compost is wonderfully rich and friable and makes great
potting soil and is great for the flower and vegetable gardens.

Composting recycles stuff that would otherwise sit unused in a
landfill. And composted soil is rich and produced healthier foods
than depleted soils. It is better for the garden than artifical
fertizers. It provides micronutrients in a balanced way. And it
grows great flowers, too! :-D

more Luffenholtz Beach

That was a huge mass of sweet peas! An unually deep pink for those. That picture hardly looks real, does it?  Leaf Lady (Gail)

Luffenholtz Beach

After we left the festival, we drove to another beach in Trinidad -- the other direction -- I didn't know it was there, tho it's only a couple miles from the beach I always go to. It's a little tricky to get to -- virtually one-lane road, teeny parking area. But really beautiful!

We've heard this is a nude beach. But no one was nude there today!

Bottle Brush Plants

(They're about the same size as a baby-bottle brush.)  Leaf Lady (Gail)

Clam beach

Was just looking to see if there were other recent pics I should share. These were on recent visits to Clam Beach -- more godwits, and some wind sculpting of sand. When it's windy, I put my camera case inside my jacket, even tho I look like I'm pregnant.

Which reminds me, the twins had the first swimming lesson this afternoon. W. got them wet suits. (Just covers the torso.) I hope the water was warm and they weren't scared!

flowery walk

The azaleas are finally in bloom en masse in Azalea Park (the Azalea Preserve). I took these to give you an idea what it looks like when I walked through today. (Not every portion has a lot of azaleas, of course.)  Leaf Lady (Gail)
