Great painting! Is that one of the larger varieties of woodpecker? It looks like the one that a client of mine has hanging around her house. I had never seen one that big before.

Yes, the pileated are among the biggest woodpeckers, and loud, too. They make rectangular holes.
Yep, that's the one my client's been seeing. Many of the trees are dying because of the drought, so the birds are searching for food and water more often in populated places now.
