There is a Godwit Festival in the Eureka-Arcata (Calf.) area each spring, as the shorebirds pass through here on their migration. I saw some yesterday at Clam Beach.

Posing
When I first arrived at Big Lagoon Saturday morning, this heron stood poised and posing by the picnic area. Yes, this picture is cropped a lot. When I tried to move closer, it flew away.
