Beach Birds

I've moved close to downtown Houston now, and the good thing about this is that I'm on the side of town close to the ship channel and all the birding trails. Also, I'm only about 40 minutes from the Galveston beaches [it took me about an hour and a half before]. These pics were taken in Galveston.

I went to hike along the birding trails in Seabrook, but it turned into a mosquito fest. I didn't get any good pics from that trip. My hike turned into a jog, and it was an itchy ride home. I'm waiting for cooler weather before I go back. It's still in the 80's around here.

These last two were taken at sunset. The one above looks like they have pink butts :]

Gorgeous bird pics! I'm obviously partial to beach pictures myself. But DON'T they have "pink butts"? If not, where did the reflection come from?

It's funny isn't it? Behind me, the sun was just starting to set and the sky turn orange, but in front of me the sky was still fairly light. So, because I was facing the blue sky, you don't see the orange in the water, only on the whites of the seagulls. It made them look like they had pink butts.

Oh yeah, I was squatting down in knee deep water when I took the shot. They were standing on a sand bar several hundred feet from the shore. That angle helped capture that "pink" color.

How fun! Lovely beach shots. Interesting, the color.

Thanks so much, Moineau En France! I'm fairly new to photography, too, having only started about 4 years ago, but it's become an addiction for me.

This blog, Silk Creek Portal, is a nature based blog started by Mary. Anyone can join and share their photography, art, and poetry about nature. Silk Creek, I think, is a place in upstate New York, but I could be wrong. Maybe Mary will tell us where exactly. Mary and several other poets and artists go there annually for a creative retreat. I hope to be able to go one year, but I live in Texas, so it would be quite a drive for me. The people who post their work here are from many different places. We would be honored if you would like to post some of your photos of the expansive French sky you mentioned, or even Oregon when you return, and not just photos, but some of your wonderful poetry, too.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I will send our Little Sparrow, Laura, an invite--I started talking to her about this, but have been off-line for a while.

Laura is traveling from France to the USA so will probably not want to join until she gets settled.

Yes, Silk Creek is in Upstate New York--it is the retreat name for Skaneateles Creek, which flows from Skaneateles Lake. It has silken waters!

Blue Rose, do you like your new home?

Are you happy there?
